SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver is continuing his outreach to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community more than a year after his anti-gay remarks leading up to the Super Bowl. The San Francisco Bay Times announced Thursday that Culliver conducted his first interview with an LGBT media outlet, sharing how he changed his thinking. Culliver, who missed the 2013 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee sustained during training camp, underwent sensitivity training and began doing other outreach work. Culliver has worked with "The Trevor Project," an organization that provides crisis and suicide intervention to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. "I truly appreciate the staff at the Trevor Project for allowing me to grow and educating me on the issues affecting the LGBTQ community," Culliver said Thursday in a statement to The Associated Press. "I have learned so much and made some really great friends. I will continue my commitment to the organization and to their youths and stand firm with hope that one day that all individuals regardless of sex, race, or creed will be treated with dignity and respect from all." During Super Bowl media day in 2013 at the Superdome in New Orleans, Culliver responded to questions from comedian Artie Lange by saying he wouldnt welcome a gay player in the locker room. He also said the 49ers didnt have any homosexual players and, if they did, those players should leave. He later apologized, facing a large group of Super Bowl media members for nearly an hour. "Chris has grown immensely from his words and has committed to continue to grow as a human, particularly around matters around the LGBTQ community," his publicist, Theodore Palmer, said Thursday. "He believes that every individual has a right to love the way they choose to love and celebrate the differences of others on a daily basis." In fact, Culliver told the Bay Times he hopes to work on a project with University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, who would become the NFLs first openly gay player. Culliver also applauded Nets centre Jason Collins, who became the first openly gay NBA player last month. "I applaud Michael and Jason for their courage," Culliver told the Bay Times. "I have absolutely no problem playing and interacting with someone from the LGBTQ community and look forward to connecting with Michael soon on some projects." The 25-year-old Culliver, a third-round draft pick in 2011 out of South Carolina, made 47 tackles with two interceptions and a forced fumble during the 2012 season while starting six games for the Niners. They lost in the Super Bowl that season to Baltimore. The San Francisco Bay Times, in its 36th year of publication, defines itself as the oldest fully LGBT-owned and funded newspaper in the Bay Area. It was the first newspaper in California, and among the first in the world, to be produced jointly and equally by gay men and lesbians. Billy Turner Jersey . Cheap Broncos Super Bowl Jerseys .twitter.com/TeZD3KOvlA — Charlotte Hornets (@hornets) September 24, 2014 Sorry for the delay, we just got back from lunch at Papa Vons #NBAFastFood pic.Depending on ones level of optimism, the Toronto Maple Leafs are either running out of time or are completely out of it in their search for a playoff berth. The Leafs have lost eight straight games and have tumbled all the way from second in the Atlantic Division to two spots back of the final Eastern Conference wild card position. Reminiscent of the teams struggles in February of 2012 that saw them drop 10 of 11 games and fall from fourth in the Eastern Conference all the way to 10th, it appears that the proverbial 18-wheeler is going off the cliff once again, to borrow former Leafs general manager Brian Burkes immortal turn-of-phrase. The 2011-12 failure would cost head coach Ron Wilson his job, with Randy Carlyle taking over before the Leafs March schedule even began. Burke, too, would become a casualty in the seasons aftermath. He would be replaced by his colleague - Dave Nonis – prior to the lockout-delayed start to the 2012-13 season. The Leafs are still mathematically in the thick of the wild card hunt – two points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets entering Monday night. But with games-in-hand to be factored, the hill could become steeper still. Regardless of whether the team makes the playoffs or not, they have certainly done themselves no favours with the slide. With the skid, the Leafs have lost the possibility of home-ice advantage against the likes of the Montreal Canadiens or Tampa Bay Lightning and have painted themselves into a black-and-gold corner that would likely see them draw the Boston Bruins (again) in the first round - that is, if they even make the playoffs. So who takes the blame this time around? Traditionally, the coach is the first to shoulder the load. So does Carlyle wear the horns? He has been a polarizing figure if former players like Mikhail Grabovski are to be believed and as the old adage goes, "you cant fire the team." Dion Phaneuf has drawn his share oof criticism over the streak as well, making notable on-ice gaffes against both the Philadelphia Flyers and St.dddddddddddd Louis Blues and taking additional heat after refusing to speak to the media after the streak hit seven. He has posted a minus-8 rating in the Leafs past three games. Nonis, too, could shoulder some of the blame for failing to add to a team that many had predicted was overachieving earlier in the season. Not only did Nonis not make a trade leading up to the Mar. 5 trade deadline, the Leafs war room was shown deserted in the minutes leading up to 3pm et that day. A lack of deadline activity is nothing new to Toronto as the team has avoided big name additions in each of the last three seasons, but should Nonis have pressed harder to improve his club? Or does the blame fall to the teams long-term core? The Leafs have five forwards - Phil Kessel, Joffrey Lupul, David Clarkson, James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak – locked up over the next four seasons beyond 2013-14 at a combined cost of just under $27 million. While Lupuls productivity has actually trended upwards during the slump (three goals in his last five games and six points over the eight games), the big line of Kessel, van Riemsdyk and Bozak has not been up to the lofty standards it set earlier this season. Kessel has scored just twice in eight games and the entire line has combined for just 12 points with only one player (Bozak) having managed a multi-point game over the stretch, and that only once. As for Clarkson, his career lows in goals and assists this season speak for themselves. The blame game could go on and on. The team has given up three goals or more eight straight games. That statistic could be pinned on the defence corps, overall team defence, or a four-game stretch without Jonathan Bernier. So who takes the blame for the Leafs late-season struggles? As always, its Your! Call. With a brand new goalie on board and the NHL Draft just days away, its a busy time of year for Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis. Speaking to Dave Naylor on TSN Drive on TSN Radio 1050 on Tuesday afternoon, Nonis reflected on how goalie Jonathan Bernier will fit into the Leafs plans going forward. "From our standpoint, it was the excitement about bringing in another top young goaltender into the organization and have Jonathan and James (Reimer) together," explained Nonis. "I think it gives us probably, in my opinion, one of the top two punches of potential in the National Hockey League." Nonis was asked if he believed that a possible battle for playing time between Bernier and Reimer could cause some tension for the club. "Well I think thats always a risk at any position. Its a situation where we feel we have two guys with great potential and great character and theres no reason why they cant both compete hard for that job and push as hard as they can to keep control of the net," said Nonis. So how did Reimer take the news that Bernier was joining the club? "(He was) professional. I think he was a little bit...I wouldnt say shocked but surprised that we brought a similar player in. I think he was thinking we would have more of an established older guy join him. "(But) if you look at the goaltenders that are available right now there wasnt a good fit for us. James understands that. He doesnt expect to come in here and have anything given to him. He wants to come in here and keep the net himself and thats what we expect out of him." While Nonis admits that no player in untouchable, he says the club has no plans to move Reimer at this point. "When we (made this trade), the thinking was you would have both (Bernier and Reimer) here at training camp and battling it out for the opening night starting position. Nonis and Naylor also discussed other parts of the team that the general manager would like to improve upon. "Down the middle is what championship teams are built with and watching the final four teams and the final two gives you a pretty good example of what you need to follow," explained Nonis. "If we can strengthen our centre position and continue to add some guys on the back end we would do it. "Really, that hasnt changed (for us), and most other teams are looking at the same things, so those are the hardest positions to find. Nonis discussed the changing dynamic of making moves in the first off-season of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. "There are more people now than usual that are looking to do a deal, but because the (salary) cap is going down its more difficult to complete one. There are going to be a lot of options, but most teams have limited cap space. It will be a moving target between now and the start of free agency." Nonis also addressed the clubs wish to attempt to keep potential unrestricted free agent Tyler Bozak. "Its a function of making (Bozak) fit within a falling cap, and we have a little bit of time left to do that. Were going to see if we can get him signed by July 5th, but if we cant were going to have to re-allocate those dollars and try to find another solution," said Nonis. What does LeBron Jamess return to Cleveland mean to that city and the league? Strickland: It would seem that Ohios Prodigal Son returning to the place where his professional success began would be a significant part of his career narrative. The legend grows even more so if James is able to unite and sow the seeds of ultimate glory in the game with his new teammates to lead them to a title. LeBron exhibited how he could lord his power over the NBA with this decision and create semi-seismic ripples in leagues landscape. But the deeper, more meaningful aspect of this all is LeBron Raymone James had to leave, grow, learn to understand what may be his greater purpose in life. In his own words: "My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didnt realize that four years ago. I do now." McNamara: For the City of Cleveland LeBrons return means everything. The city nearly shut down on Friday to celebrate. Billboards were raised and t-shirts were released. It means a return to legitimacy, not just in the NBA, but in the North American sports scene.  When LeBron left bars, restaurants and tourism suffered. LeBrons letter provides commitment and hope to a struggling region and erases the pain of the last four years.  For the NBA LeBrons return provides a phenomenal feel good story and gives hope to an underdog franchise. Its great for the league and freshens up a stale Eastern Conference scene. Watson: It allows James to make a return home, make peace with the City of Cleveland and makes them viable contenders in the Eastern Conference. Its a storybook ending, really, and a chance for James to cement his legacy if he brings a championship to Cleveland. Oh, and more jersey sales for the league as its rumoured he will change his number to 32. In LeBrons open letter to the NBA in Sports Illustrated, he mentions several of his Cleveland teammates, but not Andrew Wiggins. Cause for alarm? Strickland: No. Alarm for whom? Canadian hoops fans who would like to see the four Canucks on that team, especially Wiggins, be integral parts of aiding the Cavaliers in their NBA title quest. Understandable. But, this is a business. And this is a business that requires deft asset management skills, those often lacking in the front office decision making in Cleveland. So, do the Cavs move Andrew Wiggins, an unproven commodity on the finest of hardwood courts in The Association as yet, but with an absolutely meteoric upside for a highly coveted three-time All-Star, 3-point shooting, voracious rebounding Olympic Gold Medalist entering his prime who accelerates your teams championship aspirations? McNamara: I dont believe the exclusions of those names was a secret message or hint of things to come. It was definitely interesting that the #1 overall draft pick was left out though. Maybe LeBron doesnt know Wiggins and mentioned people with whom he was more familiar. Watson: No. Despite his talent, Wiggins is a rookie and still has to prove his worth in the NBA. The balance of power shifted in the Eastern Conference. Who prevails ad why? Strickland: While Cleveland automatically becomes a prohibitive favourite with That Guy on their roster, consider Washingtons impressive showing in the playoffs as well as retaining centre Marcin Gortat in free agency, note that Miamis not completely dead and the Toronto Raptors wont creep up on anyone next season. However, after "meditating it", the Chicago Bulls hold the most intrigue. Pau Gasol may still be the most all-around skilled big on the planet, even at 34. Teamed with 2014 Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah, they could be the best passing bigs in the league. Rookie Doug McDermott, the solid Jimmy Butler & the emerging Taj Gibson all help Coach Tom Thibodeaus plans of Eastern Conference supremacy. A healthy Derrick Rose makes this close to a forgone conclusionn.dddddddddddd McNamara: As it stands now the East is completely wide open, which makes for real interesting storylines that dont involve who will lose to Miami in the Eastern Conference. As it stands now, the major players have to include Cleveland (obviously), Indiana and Chicago. Free agency moves and trades can alter this of course. Right now I give the nod to the Cavaliers as favorites, but that takes into account a lot of assumptions that include whether Wiggins stays, if Wiggins can step in and contribute day one, how Bennett bounces back, and what trades or signings still take place. Watson: I dont necessarily know if it has shifted, I think it is just far more open and even overall. Every year the Heat were the dominant force to beat and now there isnt an overwhelming favourite. Teams have improved, (Bulls, Cavaliers), while others have are looking to take the next step after last years success (Raptors, Wizards), if some teams can figure it out, they can be dangerous (Pistons, Heat) and some have regressed (Heat, Pacers). The landscape has balanced out and its not as easy to call, with some free agents still unsigned, and moves to be made, its too early to call. Which player won the most this free agency period? Strickland: With spirited nods to the Madison Square Gardener, Carmelo Anthony (five years/$130M), Chris Bosh (five years/ $118M), Gordon Hayward (four years/$63M) and Chandler Parsons (three years/$46M), who all cashed out in dramatic fashion, LeBron James reigns here. The King didnt max out as he could have at two years/$42.1M. But the social/community currency, along with his personal peace of mind, may have the longest lasting impact and value. McNamara: No doubt LeBron. He looks like a superhero returning home and is savior to a city and region. Plus he goes to a team with assets to trade for a proven vet or just grow a stable of young studs. Watson: Chandler Parsons was a second round pick that earned $926,500 this past season with the Houston Rockets. Now the Dallas Mavericks are paying him $12 million a season on a three-year near max contract, talk about a pay day! Hes the Mavs highest player, but hes not the key to taking the Mavericks to the next level. Mark Cuban overpaid to stick it to his cross-state rival. Parsons is good, but not near-max money good. Youre the real MVP Chandler Parsons. Which player lost the most this free agency period? Strickland: Luol Deng, hands down. After dismissing several deals at $10M per year, which he felt were too low considering his stature and value, the oft-injured 29-year-old former All-Star signed a two year/$20M deal to "replace" LeBron James in Miami. More potentially lucrative offers existed with the Rockets, Mavericks, Hawks and Wizards. Negotiation is an art. Deng and his agents seem to be finger painting. And, as hard as it is to call $10 million per year "finger painting", tough to find kinder words for how this all shook out for Deng. McNamara: Chris Bosh. Why, Oh Why would he go back to Miami? There is no possible way he will be seen as anything other than a complete failure if he doesnt lead the Heat back to the Finals. Bosh going to Houston made much more sense since he would get a fresh start and different expectations on him. The only positive for CB about returning to South Beach is the extra year he gets on his contract. Watson: Chris Bosh signed a max contract with the wrong team, electing to sign a five-year $118 million to return to the Miami Heat (sans LeBron James). The Houston Rockets offered the power forward a four-year deal for $88 million to play alongside Dwight Howard and James Harden and stretch the floor and play defence in his home state, but he passed. Now he will have to work twice as hard, with Dwyane Wade on part-time duty and carry the Heat, as James made it easier for everyone on the team. He will effectively have to earn that salary, and bring his level of play back to what he did in Toronto.   Their focus in Saint John

LONDON -- Roger Federer could play for another four years and add to his tally of 17 Grand Slam titles, according to former No. 1 Pete Sampras. Speaking ahead of an exhibition match against Andre Agassi in London on March 3, Sampras said on a conference call Wednesday that he is impressed by Federers longevity. "Im amazed that he is up for more tennis," Sampras said. "He has done everything in the game and he could walk away tomorrow feeling great about it. But he still wants to travel and compete and Im in awe of it. He is a true lover of the sport." Following a disappointing 2013 season marred by back problems, Federer started this year on a high. Now working with new coach Stefan Edberg, he reached the final of his first tournament, at Brisbane, and then made the semifinals of the Australian Open for the 11th consecutive year. His run at Melbourne included wins over 2008 finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Wimbledon champion Andy Murray. Sampras, who retired after winning his 14th Grand Slam title at the 2002 U.S. Open, said Federer should be comforted by a streak that finally ended with a defeat to Rafael Nadal. "I thought his level was quite good," Sampras said. "When youre playing against Rafa and if youre not quite on your game then it can seem like youre struggling. Rafa is a rock. But I do see Roger building from that, I think hes going to do well this year." Asked if Federer could win another Grand Slam title, Sampras said the Swiss "can do it" if he plays his best tennis. "Thats why hes playing, I dont think hes playing for anything else but to win some more majors," said Sampras, adding that Federers best chance would be on his favourite grass surface, at Wimbledon. Sampras was 31 when he decided to hang up his racket for good, while the 32-year-old Federer has hinted he could keep playing until the Rio Olympics in 2016. "As long as Roger is enjoying it and hes healthy, I can see him playing for another two, three, four more years," Sampras said. Are they on track or in trouble early in this Olympic season? The results from Skate Canada International in Saint John, New Brunswick, though mixed, bode well and while we are still over three months out, there are some encouraging signs and lots of reasons for optimism heading to Sochi. The one thing we know for sure is that Tessa Virtue and Scott Moirs new free dance has Olympics written all over it. Their music is by Russian composer Alexander Glazunov, who is described as a Romantic Classicist. It is  an emotionally poignant and uplifting piece that plays to Tessa and Scotts strengths and is bound to captivate the Sochi audience. Last year, the reviews for their provocative Carmen free dance were mixed. The daring darkness of the dance brought either "love it or hate it" kind of reactions. The reviews of the new Olympic free dance have been universal in their praise. Artistically and creatively, it is a winner and a crowd pleaser that is vintage Virtue and Moir. The gold will demand endless hours now of drilling and refining in preparation for challenging U.S. rivals Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The stage is set for an intriguing showdown.  In an Olympic year, one cannot underestimate the value of a stable and supportive training environment and Patrick Chan has found that place in Detroit with coach Kathy Johnson. In his words, he is "happy" and it shows. He is patient and confident in practice, not perfect by any stretch but unfazed by any stumbles or jumping errors. In a warmup at Skate Canada, he had a jarring fall on a quad, shrugged, circled and did it again as it was intended. It was a decisive win at Skate Canada. His demeanour spoke of confidence, preparedness and experience, qualities that were missing heading into Vancouver. As he builds to Sochi and expectations rise and demands on him increase, it is the balance he has built in his life outside the rink and the foundation he has built in it that will, he hopes, make the difference. For Canadian pairs champions Meagan Duhammel and Eric Radford, it was a bit of a case of, youd better "dance with the one who brung you". In the past, it was their feisty ability to maximize technical risk and capitalize on it that got them to the world podium and it is the technical mark that let them down at Skate Canada International. In whaat Meagan called their lowest technical score ever, they dropped to third in their long program.dddddddddddd Their focus in Saint John was on artistry and character development and, while they delivered emotionally charged performances, their new focus distracted them from what they do best and their challenge over the next few weeks will be to bring the old and new together. The one thing I know about these two is that they are fighters and, with the less than stellar start and their backs to the wall, they will come out swinging. Dont drop your hands, dont count them out. Just when Kaetlyn Osmond thought she could begin her Olympic quest in earnest, she suffered another setback. Having missed a number of weeks due to an injured foot heading into Skate Canada, Kaetlyn woke up after the short program with a sore hamstring and was unable to compete in the free skate. The word is, she has tears in two tendons in her hamstring and will see limited ice and training time for the next 7-10 days, at which time it is expected to have healed. It adds up to a lot of training missed and can set up the cycle of overtraining to catch up and then reinjuring. She is young and has a bubbly personality so it will be tough to contain her. Kaetlyn has three weeks until her next Grand Prix and it is their plan that she will compete. Other Canadian honorable mentions and notable performances were those of Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje who finished second in the Ice Dance event, Amelie Lacostes short program and Eladje Baldes quad in the short. One of the most compelling performances for me at Skate Canada International was that of 28-year-old Akiko Suzuki from Japan, who critics often dismiss as being too old and past her prime. Her performances were captivating and her joy was palpable every time she took the ice. Watching her compete, I was reminded of a conversation I had with Elvis Stojko before one of his Olympic Games. When discussing dealing with Olympic pressure, he said,   "I just want to remember why it is I love to skate and, if I can think of that, I will have the right frame of mind to compete." Canadas skaters would do well to take that phrase to heart. Through all the hype and the weight of pressure and expectations of an Olympic season, it is remembering the pure joy of skating that can keep things in perspective, calm the nerves and inspire break-out performances on the road to Sochi.   how he handles the pressure
Posted by: zxlbxj1 - 10.11.2018, 07:33 - Forum: Idle Universe - No Replies

Momentum is a word that is really overused in rugby but Bristol certainly have it going into the first leg game against Doncaster. After their performances against Bedford where they won 90-35 on aggregate over the two play-off games, it would seem that they have the edge going into this game. They have a few players back from injury, they are a balanced side and have been waiting for this from the first game of the season. We have seen Bristol come close in the last two seasons only to fall at the last hurdle - if they dont do it this year then I dont think they will ever be able to do it. Doncaster are not going to take a backward step, though. You have to give credit to the club for what they have achieved. On a limited budget, Clive Griffith has put together a great squad who could take them into the Premiership. They came into this season with the aim of not getting relegated. They found some form and went on a fantastic run and then found themselves in the play-offs. Now they are in the final and could be the team that deny Bristol once again.I think it will be a close game - if Bristol can come away with a five-point win then that will give them a great buffer for the return leg at home - if Doncaster win then Bristol will really start to sweat ahead of next Wednesdays return leg.I think this will be a real forward battle and have picked out some key battles that will decide the outcome.Props: Colin Quigley v Jack OConnellQuigley is a gnarly old prop who will have a real tussle with Bristols OConnell in the front row. Quigley has spent some time in France and good tight-heads are worth their weight in gold. If he gets it right against OConnell then that will put Doncaster on the front foot.Flankers: Latu Makaafi v Jack Lam Latu Makaafi on the charge for Doncaster Knights A mouth-watering collision from these two back-rowers. Doncaster have a lovely balanced back-row with Makaafi, Michael Hills and Alex Shaw - they have played a lot together and have started all the play-off games. How they deal with the massive Bristol pack - who are bring a huge carrying game - is going to be crucial.Fly-half: Dec Cusack v Callum Sheedy Callum Sheedy nails a conversion for Bristol It has been interesting to see how Sheedy has matured over the season and how he handles the pressure of this game. I dont think he will be asked to do anything dramatic for Bristol - play for the forwards and play the ball back inside. I think Cusack wont be averse to putting the ball high in the air - Doncaster have a good chasing game and he will also kick for the corners.Centre: Will Hurrell v  Ben Mosses Will Hurrell of Doncaster Knights Hurrell has played for Leicester and for Rotherham, he is built like the proverbial outhouse who will look to smash down the Doncaster defence, but will be up against Mosses. That inside channel next to the fly-half is going to be crucial.Wings: Tyson Lewis v Tom Varndell Tom Varndell of Bristol runs in for a try If the ball does go wide then Lewis is as fleet of foot as I have ever seen. He will be up against Tom Varndell who is no slouch in the pace department either. Two very quick lads.Watch Doncaster v Bristol, Wed, 7.30pm, Sky Sports 2 HD. Watch on NOW TV for £6.99. No contract.   pick in the draft t
Posted by: zxlbxj1 - 09.11.2018, 08:16 - Forum: Idle Universe - No Replies

The Minnesota Vikings have had a change of heart. Adrian Peterson has been suspended indefinitely after the team placed him on the Commissioners Exemption List. Peterson will not be allowed around the team in any capacity until the legal proceedings have been resolved. This is a reversal of the teams previous decision, where it announced Peterson was being reactivated for this Sundays game against the New Orleans Saints. Section 17.14(a) of the NFL Constitution and Bylaws provides that the "Exemption list is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances". The same Policy also indicates that "any request must be sent to the Commissioner", should "include complete facts and reasons" to support the request and that "only the Commissioner has the authority to place a player on the Exemption List". Getting the league to put a player on this list is a big deal. Indeed, a team needs to show "unusual circumstances", which at law means a high standard. This can be very tough to meet. This makes sense. If the league could impose this type of sweeping discipline on a player at will, it would likely do so more often. By requiring "unusual circumstances", the power of the league is appropriately narrowed. The Exemption List has been used in the past by the NFL. After serving his Bounty Gate suspension, Jonathan Vilma wasnt ready to return and was able to get himself on the Exemption List. As well, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Jeff Demps was placed on the list when he wanted to pursue a track career. Michael Vick was also subject to this exemption after being released from prison and signing with the Eagles. In each of these cases, the assumption is that the player consented to the exemption, or frankly sought it out. The case of Peterson, though, is a bit different. As per the NFL CBA, the Vikings could only suspend or deactivate Peterson for a maximum of four games. Apart from that, it had the option of cutting Peterson or playing him. The NFL also could have suspended Peterson under its Personal Conduct Policy (which incidentally now incorporates the new domestic violence and assault guidelines), but that suspension would have likely been limited in duration and would have expired before the legal case was resolved. If the NFL attempted to suspend Peterson for the entire season, it would have been hit with a grievance by the NFLPA. So the league and Vikings needed to find a way to suspend Peterson indefinitely without risking a grievance or even a potential lawsuit. And thats when it turned to the Commissioners Exemption List. However, given the high standard that had to be met in order to unilaterally place a player on the Exemption List, it would have made good sense to secure Petersons consent to the indefinite suspension. Without it, the NFL would have once again risked a grievance being filed by the NFLPA resulting in the story continuing to loom over the league. How do you gain consent in a case like this? Money. For this reason, it was not a surprise to learn this morning that Peterson was being suspended indefinitely with pay. This means that Peterson consented to the suspension. The NFLPA confirmed this when it said that "Adrian Peterson made a decision to take a voluntary leave with pay to take care of his personal and legal issues." So Peterson is now suspended until the legal proceedings are resolved. With a likely Court date in early 2015, it seems probable that Peterson will not return this season. He could try and cut a deal with the prosecution, although that could take time. Taron Johnson Jersey . Berdychs play was more consistent, especially on his serves, though Gulbis was often better -- if unpredictable -- in the rallies. In the first set, Berdych won a 15-shot rally to set up a single breakpoint, which he also won. The pair exchanged words after Gulbis issued a late challenge as to whether Berdychs return was in. Gulbis failed to capitalize on the one breakpoint he had in the match, during the fourth game of the second set. Afterward the Latvian appeared to lose concentration, failing to win a single point in his followiing service game.dddddddddddd The match lasted just an hour and five minutes. "Probably it looks on paper that it was easy, but it definitely was not," said Berdych. Gulbis had won two of their five previous meetings, ousting Berdych from Wimbledon in 2012. "I was more calm, more focused, and that was my advantage today," Berdych said. Later Saturday, Dutch wildcard Igor Sijsling plays Marin Cilic of Croatia in the other semifinal. The last time a Dutch player reached the final was 2003. SINGAPORE -- Panuphol Pittayarat of Thailand birdied two of his last three holes to maintain a one-stroke lead after the second round of The Championship at Laguna National on Friday. Panuphol, the overnight leader, shot a 4-under 68 for a two-round total of 13-under 131, a stroke ahead of Scott Hend of Australia, David Lipsky of the United States, and Felipe Aguilar of Chile in a tie for second place. The Thai, ranked 451st in the world, has never won on the European Tour and missed his last three cuts this year on the Asian Tour. "The two birdies in my last three holes were nice to end off my round," he said. "Its nice to be putting myself in a good position heading into the last two rounds. I would rather stay up there than to be chasing the lead actually. I just want to grab my chance and not let it go." Hend had eight birdies and just one bogey to shoot a 7-under 65, the low round of the day. The Australian, whos also looking for his first European Tour title, said it was difficult to stay focused in the hot, humid conditions at Singapores Laguna National golf course. "I am used to this kind of weather but it still comes to a point where your body just cannot take it and it makes you lose concentration," he said. "Im managing well so far. Two more rounds to go and we will see what happens." Aguilar, playing with a sore wrist after a recent mountain biking accident, birdied his last three holes to card a 67. "(The wrist) doesnt bother me much, but I still have pain. It will be there for the next four or five months," he said. "Everything you do is dangerous so you have to be careful, but Im playing good golf because Im happy, and so the mountain biking helps." Anders Hansen is also returning from a wrist injury that required surgery and kept him off the tour for six months last year. He missed the cut at his first two events this year, but finished in a tie for fifth last week at the China Open. The Danish golfer shot a 66 on Friday to move into a share of fifth place at 11 under, two strokes off the pace. He dropped a stroke on his final hole when he three-putted for bogey. "Its always hard coming back after an injury," he said. "Ive never had six months off before so I didnt know what to expect. It was tough the first four rounds I played, the first two in Spain and Malaysia, but then last week something kicked in and it has carried on this week."
